The Hour of Science project: a SFedU scientist spoke about the possibilities of 3D modeling

17 октября 2025 г.

On October 15, the lecture "3D modeling as the basis of industrial creativity" was held at the Chekhov Central City Public Library.

Nowadays, 3D modeling has become an integral part of many fields of activity: from cinema and games to architecture and engineering. It is a technology that allows you to create accurate and detailed models of objects in three-dimensional space, opening up limitless possibilities for creativity and innovation.

At the lecture of the popular science project "Hour of Science", Vyacheslav Orekhov, Associate Professor of the Department of Engineering Graphics and Computer Design at the SFedU Institute of Radio Engineering Systems and Control, told Taganrog schoolchildren about the origin of three-dimensional graphics, the features of engineering 3D modeling, and gave examples of the use of 3D modeling in various fields.

According to the speaker, today 3D modeling opens up wide opportunities for the implementation of the most daring creative ideas and engineering solutions.

"The advantages of 3D modeling are obvious: the ability to create realistic visualizations, save time and money at the design stage, as well as the ability to make changes at any stage of work. This technology allows you to get results ten times faster than without using 3D modeling.

The process of creating a 3D model includes several stages: from concept development and sketching to final rendering. Specialists use specialized software such as 3ds Max, Google Sketchup, and Blender to model and texture objects.

Today, the scope of application of 3D modeling in conjunction with additive technologies (3D printing) is expanding: prototyping in production, medicine, finished products for various purposes and much more.

In the process of learning 3D modeling, children develop a number of competencies, such as spatial and logical thinking, perseverance, a technical approach to solving problems, programming basics and teamwork skills, and imagination and imagination develop.

To successfully master programs in this area, it is necessary not only to master the interface, but also to have knowledge in geometry, mathematics, and logic," Vyacheslav Orekhov noted.

The lecture was attended by 120 students of grades 10-11 from the Mariinsky Gymnasium, Secondary School No. 10, secondary school No. 9 with advanced English language studies.

One of the most active participants in the lecture was Petr Lopanitsyn, a 10th grade student at the Mariinsky Gymnasium:

"The lecture was very interesting and informative. Most of all, I remember the moments related to gaming and medicine. Additional interest was aroused by the fact that my friend and I had already compiled 3D models as part of a city project competition.

This is not the first time I have attended a lecture of the Hour of Science project. After the event, everyone has a lot of emotions, a lot of impressions. I like that you can learn about various sciences and professions here."

The next lecture of the Hour of Science project will be held in November. It will tell you how science can help solve environmental problems.
