Additional expenses

When you arrive in Russia, there are some extra costs on top of the basic tuition and accommodation. During the first months of your arriving, it would be better to have about extra 400 $ for additional expenses: setting up an apartment or dorm (purchasing dishes, bedding, cleaning supplies), buying some textbooks and university supplies. This is an approximate amount and it all depends on your needs.


Expect, that you will pay additionally for some extra things, following:


Medical insurance (4000 rubles per year (about ≈50$)). For some further information about medical insurance can be asked by e-mail tcenter@sfedu.ru


On average, you will spend at least 15 thousand rubles (≈ 160$) per month on:

  • Food (from 10,000 rubles per month),
  • Mobile communications (from 400 rubles per month),
  • Transport (from 2,500 rubles per month),

 As for bank cards for student scholarships, they are issued by universities. If you need to get an additional bank card, you can issue and receive it at any bank branch. To apply for a card, you must submit an application for opening at a bank branch and provide the required documents. Usually, to issue a card, a foreign citizen will need:


1. Passport of a foreign citizen or other identification document;


2. Notarized translation of the document into Russian (with the “blue" stamp);


3. Migration card, registration (notification of registration), residence permit (if any).
