During the expedition, the students gained practical experience working with sonar equipment and were able to test the profiler they developed in more difficult conditions of the open bay.
Employees and students of the Faculty of the Southern Federal University took part in hydrographic research together with NPP "AME" and LLC "NELAKS". The expedition team from the Advanced Engineering School of the Southern Federal University included Daniil Davydov, Maxim Yeremeychuk, Valery Neruk and Alexander Voloshchenko under the mentorship of the head of the Hydroacoustic Systems and Complexes division, Peter Pivnev.
"The main purpose of the study was to conduct high-precision bottom profiling in the area of the western edge of Dalnaya Bay, which is located in the coastal zone of the Gulf of Finland. For these purposes, a parametric profiler was used, which is a development of the research group at the Southern Federal University. The device has a high resolution and allows you to obtain detailed profilograms of bottom sediments," said Pyotr Pivnev.
The equipment was tested on an unmanned boat developed by NPP AME for PJSC Gazprom Neft. During the expedition, the staff and students of the Southern Federal University acquired invaluable practical experience working with modern sonar equipment, and were able to test the profiler they developed in new, more complex hydrological conditions of the open bay. In addition, specialists from the Southern Federal University exchanged knowledge and experience with colleagues from NPP AME and PJSC Gazprom Neft, which significantly expanded their professional competencies in the field of hydroacoustics.
The results of the expedition are not only a significant contribution to the mapping of the bottom of the Gulf of Finland, but also an important stage in the development of scientific and technical cooperation between educational and industrial organizations in the field of advanced sonar technologies.
