Happiness is not in princes: SFedU students presented a fairy tale

18 марта 2026 г.

On March 16, as part of the Student Spring festival, students of the Kapitany Business Faculty presented the production "The Princess and the Frog" on the stage of ODNT. This is the story of a hardworking Tiana and a prince turned into a frog.

In the center of the plot is a hardworking and purposeful girl, Tiana, from New Orleans. Since childhood, she has dreamed of opening her own restaurant — this dream was instilled in her by her father, who taught her to believe in the power of work and perseverance. Tiana fully devotes herself to work, giving up rest and entertainment, because for her, a restaurant is not just a matter of life, but a way to preserve the memory of a loved one.

Fate brings her together with Prince Navin, a frivolous heir accustomed to a carefree life. However, in New Orleans, he becomes a victim of the sorcerer Dr. Facile, who wields dark voodoo magic, and turns into a frog. To return to his human form, the prince needs a kiss from a real princess.

By coincidence, Naveen meets Tiana and mistakes her for a princess. The girl agrees to help, hoping that the reward will bring her closer to her dream. But everything goes differently: a kiss does not break the spell, but turns Tiana herself into a frog.

Finding themselves in the same position, the characters embark on a journey through the swamps of Louisiana in search of Odie's mother, a mysterious sorceress who can lift the curse. Along the way, they are accompanied by new friends: cheerful crocodile Louis, who dreams of playing jazz, and romantic firefly Ray, who believes in true love. Together they overcome difficulties, face dangers and resist the insidious plans of Dr. Fasilye.

The journey becomes not only a challenge for the characters, but also an opportunity to change. Tiana begins to realize that life is not limited to work and achieving goals, and Naveen learns responsibility and caring for others. In the end, the story reveals the main idea: the real value is love, friendship and the support of loved ones. Tiana finds not only a new perspective on her dream, but also a man with whom she is ready to go through life.

Working on the production became a real creative experiment for the students. Due to their limited experience in directing, the team made changes to the scenes, numbers, and characters after each run. As a result, by the end, about 20% of the original script remained, which made it possible to create a truly lively performance. Despite the difficulties that arose, the participants noted that it was positive emotions and shared memories that became the most valuable result.

"Did everything work out? I think so, and even more. As our dean's office, Marina Sergeevna Shustova, says: first of all, you go there to get high, and then you pick up a place. And I completely agree with her — we got a lot of funny memories that we will remember with a smile and tell more than one generation of our faculty," says cultural organizer Anna Kravtsova.

Special attention was paid to details. So, Tiana's costume, necessary for the stage transformation, was redone three times before it was possible to achieve the desired effect. The neon show turned out to be the largest: the decorations consisted of many elements, and the largest structure reached 12 meters in length, which created additional difficulties during transportation and installation. One of the rooms — with crocodiles and frogs — combined seven musical compositions at once, creating a rich and memorable atmosphere.

As a result of their participation in the Student Spring, the students not only presented a vivid show, but also gained valuable experience, which inspired many to try themselves as directors in the future.
