The SFedU delegation held a working meeting at the Havana office of the GEOCUBA Group of Companies

During the official visit to Havana, the delegation of the Southern Federal University held a working meeting at the head office of the GEOCUBA Group of companies.

During the meeting, issues of conducting joint scientific research, participating in international scientific projects and grants, opening joint master's degree programs in the field of geoinformatics, as well as organizing internships for Cuban students at SFedU within the framework of the Internship in Russia – a Step towards Success program were discussed!

Gennady Veselov, Director of the SFedU Institute of Computer Technology and Information Security, spoke about similar and related areas of scientific research, as well as ongoing educational programs in the field of geographic information support for the cadastre and applied geoinformatics.

The Cuban colleagues were very interested in the scientific developments of SFedeU scientists in the field of intelligent geoinformation systems, applied photogrammetry, decision support systems in emergency situations, predictive maintenance systems for wind turbine parks, as well as research in the field of secure systems with increased fault tolerance for digital cartography and precision agriculture.

GEOCUBA's unique experience is of interest to the Russian side as an example of the organization of high-tech production on a national scale and a successful example of import substitution of geographic information systems software.

The parties exchanged information materials and contacts, discussed further steps to develop cooperation.

The first contacts of the SFedU with GEOCUBA were established in 2023 during the XX meeting of the Intergovernmental Russian-Cuban Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation.

For reference: The GEOCUBA Group of Companies was founded on May 1, 1995 as a result of the merger of the Cuban Institute of Hydrography and the Cuban Institute of Geodesy and Cartography. GEOCUBA provides a wide range of solutions in the field of geodesy and topography, photogrammetry, digital cartography and geographic information systems, topographic mapping, cadastre, marine research, navigation aids, metrology, engineering and geological research, preparation of geographical maps and atlases. GEOCUBA employs more than 3,000 people, including 32 Doctors of Science and 254 Masters of Science in specialized fields.
