
From June 7 to 11, the annual international field school "Forest" was held at the Northern (Arctic) Federal University named after M.V. Lomonosov, organized as part of the Russian-Vietnamese North-South project.
The School's mission is to familiarize participants with the characteristic ecosystems of high latitudes, ways to protect and preserve biodiversity, discuss the problems of the Arctic region and the role of man in the transformation of the biosphere in the past, present and future.
The following students of the Institute of Earth Sciences were selected from the Southern Federal University on a competitive basis: Roman Tkachenko, Marina Bondar, Mikhail Rovensky, Ksenia Trapeznikova.
The school's program included lectures and cultural and educational events in the Pinezhsky State Nature Reserve, the Golubino Cultural and Landscape Park, and the Malye Korely Museum Reserve.
The participants listened to lectures on the topics of physical geography of the Northern Arctic, nature conservation and rational use of natural resources. A guided tour of the academic buildings and the museum and a master class on polygraph from PhD, Associate Professor Igor Chub were also organized for students.
After graduation, a project work was carried out to evaluate one of the ecotropics with suggestions for improvement. SFedU students took the third place according to the results of the competitive selection of projects and received certificates of participants.
Within the framework of the Russian-Vietnamese North-South project, a joint network center is being established for the conservation and development of nature-protected forest and steppe zones, taking into account the impact on soil resources.
The project involves the Southern Federal University, the Northern (Arctic) Federal University, the Vietnamese National University of Forestry, and the University of Thainguen.
