
On January 24-25, the Lyceum of the Southern Federal University hosted Days of Foreign Languages, the central theme of which was the "Palette of Cultures", and one of the key figures was the personality of the Scottish poet Robert Burns, whose memorial day falls on January 25.
That is why the checkered design elements and clothing items stood out especially these days in the Lyceum space – as a reference to the tartan checkered pattern, by which much could be learned about the history of every Scottish family and the whole nation. As noted in the announcement of the event, "a whole history of peoples is hidden in the interweaving of these colored threads. And our whole world, like a huge checkered pattern, consists of thousands and thousands of the same colorful threads – cultures."
The Days of Foreign Languages that took place from the very first moments fascinated the lyceum students with their subject content. Most of the program was devoted to the presentation of reports and communication with honored guests and speakers.
Rosa Aslanyan, an audiovisual translator, a member of the Eurasian League of Subtitlers, an employee of RuFilms, held an open lecture for representatives of all classes of the Lyceum "What is translation and "what is it eaten with"?". Maria Selezneva, a graduate of the Lyceum, a 2nd–year student of the Faculty of Journalism of Moscow State University, told the students of grades 10-11 about the similarity of lexical and grammatical aspects in English and French. Also, graduates of the Lyceum of the SFedU – 4th year student of the direction "Pedagogical education with two training profiles (Russian / English)" Mariam Javadyan and 1st year student of the direction "Foreign Philology" Anastasia Mostipan – took part in the hearing and discussion of the speeches of lyceum students.
Lyceum students Ekaterina Arzamastseva, Alice Volkova, Nika Dedikova, Polina Edryshova, Sofya Kalinchenko, Svetlana Kirakosyan, Veronika Kozlova, Alexandra Kochkarova, Anastasia Krivoplyas, Lyona delivered reports in English and Spanish, prepared under the guidance of teachers Daria Degtyar, Natalia Zholnai, Valentina Ivanova, Mikhail Kaidash, Alyona Kolbasova and Karina Talalaeva. Ligai, Victoria Likhoded, Vladislava Martynova, Ekaterina Marchenko, Marina Nestratova, Ivan Popov, Polina Ryabko and Polina Chebotareva.
Special attention was paid not only to the scientific and educational, but also to the creative component of the subject days that took place. Tenth-graders Maria Orobets, Yaroslav Olkhovsky and Vladislav Yanchenko accompanied a story about the life and work of Robert Burns with a reading of poems in the original language, and Daniil Cherny made author's translations of Veronika Dolina's songs into English. Eleventh-graders Valeria Dvugrosheva, Polina Edryshova, Polina Zhukova, Svetlana Kirakosyan, Diana Kolesnikova, Margarita Krivoshapova, Ekaterina Lysenko, Elizaveta Mikuta, Marina Perepelkina, Ksenia Radyuk, Victoria Rybchenko and Varvara Subbotina presented the poem "The Chaos" by J.N. Trenite with elements of dramatization.
Lyceum students of humanities classes studying not only English, but also Spanish, under the guidance of teachers Alyona Kolbasova and Daria Degtyar took part in the quiz "Latin American Countries" and interactive "Translation difficulties". The literature teacher Ekaterina Grishchenko not only decorated the Lyceum space with a creative portrait of Robert Burns, but also offered lyceum students of all classes to participate in the game "First Impression", based on the principles of the famous and beloved board game "Imaginarium". The starting point for the selection of association cards by the participants of the game were catch phrases in English and Spanish. Lyceum students themselves also acted as organizers of games for fellow students: Konstantin Nefedov demonstrated the result of programming – the interactive game "The Gallows", and Mikhail Bochkarev and Daria Kasyanova conducted a Geopardy quiz with lyceum students of grades 10-11.
When summing up the results of the Days of Foreign Languages, all the speakers were awarded certificates, and the organizers of the activities were awarded with thanks from the director of the Lyceum of the Southern Federal University, Associate Professor of the Southern Federal University, Ph.D. Anna Dmitrova. Special mention was made of the photo accompaniment of the events of the subject days by eleventh-graders Anna Aleynikova and Ekaterina Blagodarnaya, as well as the organizational and coordination work of the English teacher Valentina Ivanova and the deputy director of the Lyceum, senior teacher Marina Miroshnik.
