On the World Day of Tai Chi and Qigong, SfedU held an Interregional teleconference

1 мая 2023 г.

On April 29, the staff of the SFedU Academy of Physical Culture and Sports and students from different departments of the university performed a set of health-improving exercises together with friends from Moscow, Ulyanovsk, Chelyabinsk and Togliatti.

Tai chi gymnastics originated from the Chinese martial art of Taijiquan, and qigong is an ancient Chinese art of self-regulation of the body. That is why every year on the last Saturday of April, the Chinese celebrate a day dedicated to these wellness practices, which are now available to students of SFedU.

The basic complex of tai chi and qigong in its movements reflects the concept of the formation of the universe and the origin of the movement of qi energy in it. For the first time, the World Day of Tai Chi and Qigong was celebrated in 1999, over the years of the existence of this holiday, more than eighty countries of the world have joined the celebration. Every year, mass demonstrations and free tai chi and qigong classes are held in hundreds of cities.

The teleconference was held with the support and participation of the Daoyin Yangsheng RFSOO and with the aim of a joint demonstration in two qigong complexes: "Health-enhancing and life-Prolonging No. 1" and "Ba Duan Jing", as well as discussion of further prospects for the development of cooperation.

"Student life is full of tension and mental work, and even avid athletes do not have the opportunity to practice sports to relieve and switch attention every day. Qigong does not contradict other sports, where training is scheduled, qigong is something that you can and should do every day, at any time convenient to you. And it will strengthen not only your body, but also help to get rid of stress," said Vladimir Butrimov, president of the Daoyin Association of Russia.

The Southern Federal University was joined by the Togliatti WUSHU and Qigong Center "Wu De", the Moscow branch of the "Daoyin Association of Russia", the ANO "Academy of Health Culture" with students of Ulyanovsk State University, the Department of "Wellness Technologies and Physical Culture of the East" with students of the Ural State University of Physical Culture.

"At SFedU, we were the first in Russia to teach qigong to students of all fields and specialties, and thus we embarked on the path of popularizing Chinese wellness practices in Russia. In the future, our students will be able to pass an exam on the knowledge and accuracy of performing sets of exercises, and, I hope, some of them will get the right to work as qigong and tai chi instructors themselves," said Ekaterina Afonina, senior lecturer at the Academy of Physical Culture and Sports of the Southern Federal University.

At the end of May, the Southern Federal University will hold an International teleconference on Qigong and Tai Chi with Peking University.
