SFedU students celebrated Navruz— the Central Asian holiday of nature awakening

25.03.2025

The vernal equinox is widely celebrated in the Middle East and Central Asia, and in Iran and Afghanistan, Navruz replaces the New Year altogether. Navruz was celebrated in Rostov-on-Don on March 22 with the participation of the Southern Federal University.

Navruz is a holiday that symbolizes not only the renewal of nature, but also the strengthening of ties between people. It intertwines the customs of different regions, united by a common theme of renewal and hope. In the Rostov region, it is celebrated by representatives of various traditions, demonstrating the desire for peace, unity and prosperity.

The Nature Awakening Festival brought together representatives of the national cultural autonomies of Rostov-on-Don and the Rostov Region, as well as international students of the Southern Federal University, who prepared their creative performances for the festival guests.

Yakov Aslanov, SFedU Vice-Rector for Educational Work and Youth Programs, emphasized that common traditions can unite nations.

"This traditional spring festival symbolizes not only the onset of warmth, but also renewal in the souls of people. Every year, more and more people from different nations participate in this holiday, learning more about our common history and being filled with good intentions," said Yakov Aslanov.

Besides the students, the Don Cossacks Ensemble and the Giz-Galasy Ensemble created a festive mood at the festival.
